CLASS NOTES
LAW #1 – Find Your Passion
Teachers who LOVE their style of yoga, their practice (or even something as specific as kundalini meditation, inversions or backbends), those are the teachers that act like giant magnets, drawing students to their classes naturally— effortlessly!
Note: this is not about being a superstar. It’s all about recognizing what really drives you and giving that back to the world as service.
LAW #2 – Find Your Yoga Vehicle & Drive!
Every teacher needs to find their preferred teaching vehicle. Is it a 1-hour class? A 5-hour workshop?A book?A DVD? Learn how to quickly decide which one best fits with your personality and goals—and then how to drive it!
LAW #3 – You MUST Be Self Employed
I don’t care if you work for a huge studio or if you teach in a church basement. As a yoga teacher, you must always remember that you work for yourself.
If you’ve found a studio you love, that’s great. But studios go out of business every day, and you are not a product or just another employee. You’re a unique individual with unique talents and passions, so I’ll show you how to bullet-proof yourself from the ups and downs of the economy and the ups and downs of yoga studios.
Note: I’ll also teach you exactly how you can setup and run your own profitable yoga studio with little or no capital if that’s what you’d like to do.
LAW #4 – Poor Yoga Teachers Suck
The last thing this world needs in anther broke yoga teacher. Students don’t want a teacher who can’t afford health insurance or who hasn’t got a dime of savings. They want to look up to you not just for your yoga classes—but for your lifestyle as well.
To live simply is honorable. To live in poverty is a shame. Poverty is a disease, a state of lack that produces anxiety, hopelessness, and struggle—none of the qualities of a good yogi.
Don’t misunderstand me. I have no interest in stretch limos or Hollywood parties, but it’s absolutely crucial that you develop a healthy relationship with money.
Learn how to effortlessly double your income (at least), spend less than you earn, give to charity each and every year, and live a life of true abundance by confronting your money issues head on by making minor shifts in your behavior that’ll lead you to financial freedom faster than you ever thought possible.
LAW #5 – Creativity is the Key to All Success
Every moment you’re alive, you’re both consuming and creating energy. The happiest, wealthiest, most-respected teachers are those that create more energy than they consume.
You don’t need Yoga Journal-flexibility or the inspiring voice of a politician to inspire students. You simply need to put out more energy than you consume each day, and everything will flow.
This is NOT the power of intention or “The Secret.” This is all about creative action, each and every day. For every yoga class you teach, you must yourself practice. For every new skill you learn, you must teach it to others many times over to keep your creative abundance flowing.
Creative action has been a part of the yoga tradition since the beginning of time, but many teachers forget the simple law of give and take.
